Defiant Youths:  Did You Think You Were the First?  Debunking the status quo is nothing new.  The young men who started the Impressionist movement were friends who met in a painting class while studying the conventional technique and style of the times.

 

Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Frederic Bazille wished to make their mark on the art world – to break away from the expected subject matter as well as the dominantly dark color palettes of the art of their time.  They were young and full of passion and exuberance for their craft.  Who knew just how powerfully their work would impact the face of art and change it forever…

In this unit, you will compare and contrast three Impressionist artists or a group of artists made up of Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.  Can painters who see things differently still be friends -- or learn from each other?
